چکیده

Abstract Phylogenetic trees are a central tool for studying language evolution and have wide implications understanding cultural as whole. For example, they been the basis of studies on musical instruments, religious beliefs political complexity. Bayesian phylogenetic methods transparent regarding data assumptions underlying inference. One these assumptions—that languages change independently—is incompatible with reality evolution, particularly contact. When speakers interact, frequently borrow linguistic traits from each other. ignore this issue, which can lead to errors in reconstruction. More importantly, neglect rich history A principled way integrating contact is sorely missing. We present , model horizontal transfer evolution. The efficiently infers tree family events between its clades. implementation available package phylogenetics software BEAST 2. apply simulation study case subset well-documented Indo-European languages. demonstrates that correctly reconstructs simulated family, including events. Moreover, it shows ignoring systematic estimated height, rate topology, be avoided . confirms known finds loanwords, demonstrating practical potential. has higher statistical fit than conventional reconstruction, reconstructed height significantly closer well-attested estimates. Our method closes long-standing gap theoretical empirical models especially relevant less documented families, where our knowledge past contacts borrowings limited. Application of Bayesian decision making tool in detecting oil-water contact in a carbonate reservoir

Detection of Oil-Water Contacts (OWCs) is one of the primary tasks before evaluation of reservoir’s hydrocarbon in place, determining net pay zones and suitable depths for perforation operation. This paper introduces Bayesian decision making tool as an effective technique in OWC detecting using wire line logs. To compare strengths of the suggested method in detecting OWC with conventional one, ...

Bayesian Models for Phylogenetic trees

introduction: inferring genetic ancestry of different species is a current challenge in phylogenetics because of the immense raw biological data to be analyzed. computational techniques are necessary in order to parse and analyze all of such data in an efficient but accurate way, with many algorithms based on statistical principles designed to provide a best estimate of a phylogenetic topology....

Detecting excess radical replacements in phylogenetic trees.

There are a few instances in which positive Darwinian selection has been convincingly demonstrated at the molecular level. In this study, we present a novel test for detecting excess of radical amino-acid replacements. Such excess is usually indicative of positive Darwinian selection, but may also be due to relaxed functional constraints or model misspecification. In our test, each amino-acid r...

Inferring Epidemic Contact Structure from Phylogenetic Trees

Contact structure is believed to have a large impact on epidemic spreading and consequently using networks to model such contact structure continues to gain interest in epidemiology. However, detailed knowledge of the exact contact structure underlying real epidemics is limited. Here we address the question whether the structure of the contact network leaves a detectable genetic fingerprint in ...
